🌳 Into the Wild: Our Forest Studies Programme at Primrose Hill🌳

Where curiosity grows, confidence blooms, and nature becomes the classroom.
Where curiosity grows, confidence blooms, and nature becomes the classroom.

Why Forest Studies?

At Primrose Hill International School, we believe learning doesn’t just happen within four walls—it flourishes in forests, under the sky, and between the trees.

Our Forest Studies Programme is a cornerstone of our active learning approach. It’s more than outdoor play; it’s an immersive experience that fosters independence, resilience, and a deep respect for the natural world.

🌿 What is Forest Studies?

Forest Studies is a hands-on, child-led learning experience that takes place in nature. With every muddy adventure and leafy discovery, children develop vital life skills—problem solving, teamwork, empathy, and creative thinking—while connecting with the world around them.

It’s rooted in the Forest School ethos: long-term, regular sessions in natural environments that inspire holistic growth.

🌲 Why It Matters

✔️ Builds Confidence – Children are trusted to take appropriate risks, make decisions, and explore independently.

✔️ Boosts Well-being – Outdoor learning supports mental health, emotional regulation, and physical activity.

✔️ Teaches Real-World Science – From lifecycles to habitats, our forest becomes a living science lab.

✔️ Fosters Friendships – Children of all personalities connect through shared adventure and teamwork.

🍃 What a Typical Session Looks Like

Our Forest Studies days are a highlight of the week—and here’s how they unfold:

🕙 10:00am – We arrive at a local nature reserve, filled with Jungle trails, winding streams, and discovery at every turn.

🌿 A morning circle kicks off the day, setting intentions like “find five kinds of leaves” or “build a bird shelter.”]

🪵 Children then roam freely between guided activities and child-led exploration:

🔍 Insect hunting with magnifying glasses

🍁 Tree and leaf ID games

🎨 Nature-inspired art and storytelling

🏗️ Den building and rope challenges

🥪 Lunchtime – Shared picnic-style under the trees, with laughter, stories, and a well-deserved break.🌤️ The adventure continues into the afternoon before the group returns to school at 3:00pm.

🍪 Back in the classroom, children are greeted with a sweet treat—a little reward to round off a day full of fresh air, fun, and forest magic.

🌼 Nature is the Best Teacher

Forest Studies nurtures the whole child—mind, body, and spirit. Whether your little one is climbing over a log, drawing with sticks, or watching ants at work, they’re developing skills that will serve them for life.

It’s about connection. Confidence. And the joy of learning, the natural way.
